2019 Kitchen Backsplash Trends – Part 2

Welcome back for round 2 of our Kitchen Backsplash Trends series.

Our previous post brought up the use of patterns, metallic finishes, subway tiles, and ceiling height backsplashes. If you haven’t already, be sure to stop by and give that a read for the full experience when it comes to considering options for your kitchen backsplash.

If you have read it, great!

We’ve got a few more options for you to consider and by all means remember, trends are set by those who dare to go against the grain and take their style in new directions. Who says you have to choose to follow one of these trends if any at all? It can be fun to make it your own and do a combination of styles and maybe create the next trend – who knows?

All About The Finish

Given today’s advances in technology, it’s completely possible to have just about any finish you can imagine. Finishes can include anything but not limited to ceramic, glass, metal, and wood. But maybe the wood or the specific style of stone you had in mind is too expensive. Or, maybe it’s just not locally available. In today’s world, there are a variety of wood or stone “looks” of tile available. These are usually made of ceramic which can be molded or printed on to emulate the look and finish you are going for.

Color It All

Let’s face it 9 in 10 homes you walk into are either beige, beige, or beige. On occasion, they’ll be white or gray. There’s nothing wrong with neutral colors, they are always a safe bet when it comes to decorating and styling your home. But this is your home, this doesn’t have to be like everyone else’s. Your backsplashes or feature walls are perfect opportunities to express yourself. Go bold, be loud, stand out. Define your style! You can add some modern luxury by combining black and golds,  or use reds just like restaurants to help evoke feelings of hunger. (What? Did you think it was a coincidence almost all food-related places use reds?)

Go Big

Most mosaics or installations are made up of a variety of smaller chips or pieces that make up the entire install. Large format tiles or “slabs” are gaining popularity with their modern look and limited number of breaks or grout joints. The draw being a feeling of large continuous pieces making up your backsplash rather than hundreds of tiny chips building up to an entire mosaic.

Making Your Mark

Have you considered any of these options before? As general as some of these categories might seem, there are literally hundreds of different materials, styles, and colors to choose from. Some of them taking cues from multiple influences making it possible to mix and match as you please! Creating patterns with large subway tiles containing mirror pieces mixed in? Creating a large marble backsplash out of 3-5 large slabs? Adding splashes of bold color to bring your install to life? Maybe? It’s really up to you!
